18th October 2017 - Rosary Day

On Wednesday 18th October 2017 Year 5 and 6 from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School joined our year 5 and 6 to pray the rosary together.  This was part of the world wide initiative for one million children to pray the rosary on this day.

We prayed the joyful mysteries of the rosary together and each class introduced the decade with a short drama. This was a lovely occasion that brought our two schools together in prayer.

The Catenians very kindly donated 200 rosary beads as part of this initiative and the rosary beads were given  to every child in KS2 who wished to take one home.

13th October 2017 - Dunstable Mass

On Friday 13th October 2017 the junior chaplaincy team and some children from year 6 went to the Diocesan Schools’ Mass at Dunstable. They were one of many schools from across the diocese who came together to celebrate Mass with Bishop Peter.  We brought our schools ‘prayer baton’ which contained prayers from all the children in Good Shepherd and chose another ‘prayer baton’ from a different school.  We chose the baton from St. Vincent’s School in Dunstable and we will be offering up their prayers when we say ours during the day.

This year The Good Shepherd has  supported the charity "Aid to the Church in Need" during their "Red Wednesday" campaign as well as fundraising during Lent with our cake stall and second-hand book sale!

Marie Fahy the Schools and Youth Officer at "Aid to the Church in Need" sent a kind message of thanks to Children, Parents and Staff here at The Good Shepherd:

"Thank you for the magnificent donation to our Lenten appeal. It is so generous of your pupils and their families and all the more special because the children decided to help a family for three months. Thank you too for your ongoing support and for the hard work of the staff at The Good Shepherd. "

A big thank you to all those parents who donated items and backpacks for Mary’s Meals Backpack Project. We were able to send 24 full backpacks to Mary’s Meals which they were very grateful for.

As they wrote in their thank you letter to us ‘We love the Backpack Project because it complements our school feeding programme by providing children with items that support their education.’

This Wednesday 23rd November 2016 we all took part in Aid to the Church in Need’s ‘Standing up for faith and freedom’ campaign.

We joined together with other faiths, schools, churches and famous landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament in wearing red.

20th October 2016 - Harvest Worship - Brighten up this Harvest!

It was lovely to see so many parents at our Harvest Worship on Thursday 20th October! We would also like to thank you all for your generous support of both the Hope Centre and Cafod. We had lots of donations for the Hope Centre and they were very grateful for the many items they received. Cafod’s theme this year has been ‘Brighten up this Harvest’. During this year of Mercy Pope Francis has asked us to rediscover the corporal works of mercy, one of which is feed the hungry. At the moment Cafod are particularly helping the people of Bolivia in South America. They asked us to ‘brighten up’ this harvest to help build a brighter world and to put into action the corporal act of mercy of feeding the hungry. It was lovely to see the children all looking bright and colourful!
